A disgraced executive in the world of soccer reluctantly seeks assistance from a retired soccer superstar to coach a children’s team, setting the stage for a small-town love story reminiscent of Ted Lasso and It Happened One Summer. This tale is penned by the acclaimed author of The Spanish Love Deception and follows the journey of Adalyn Reyes.
Adalyn has honed her daily routine over the years: rise early, head to the Miami Flames FC offices, strive to make a positive impact, return home, and repeat. However, her routine is disrupted when a video surfaces, capturing her in a confrontation with the team’s mascot. Instead of termination, her father, who is the team’s owner, sends her to a remote area in North Carolina as a way to redeem herself. Here, she is tasked with reviving the struggling local soccer team, the Green Warriors. However, her plans hit a snag when she discovers that the young players wear tutus to practice (impractical), keep pet goats (messy), and are fearful of Adalyn (counterproductive). These players are just nine-year-old kids.
To complicate matters further, Cameron Caldani, a goalkeeping prodigy with a mysterious presence, is also in town. Cam is the ideal candidate to assist Adalyn, but after an unfortunate initial encounter involving a rooster, Cam’s injured leg, and Adalyn’s bumper, he is determined to drive her out of town. Banishment, however, is not an option for Adalyn. Helping this mismatched children’s team is her path to redemption, and she is committed to playing the long game, with or without Cam’s support.
